Every hour, the sun showers the earth with more energy than the world's entire population consumes in a whole year. Photovoltaic panels are able to convert a percentage of this free energy to electricity using silicon-based technology originally developed for use in outer space. They are a proven, reliable, clean power source; most solar panels carry an otherwise unheard-of 20 to 25 year warranty.

The power produced by solar panels can be used directly to pump water, stored in a battery bank or fed into the electrical distribution grid. Stored solar energy can be inverted and used to power electrical appliances in large buildings, in factories and in residential homes.

Photovoltaic panels come in many shapes and sizes and are fully modular. Solar arrays can be as small as 5 or 10 watts for operating remote data-logging equipment or can form a solar power plant with an output in the megawatts.
