Description:
The project is the largest gas development project currently underway in the Middle East, and will process natural gas and gas liquids extracted from fields located in the Persian Gulf. The facility will have a capacity to process approximately 1x109 ft3/day of sour gas. The environmental impact assessment examined the interaction of the facility with the surrounding desert environment, and the adjacent coastal zone. The presence of a number of sensitive native and migrating faunal species added to the complexity of the project, particularly in consideration of the environmental sensitivity concerning the handling and management of acid gas and sulphur emissions. This project is unique as it is one of the first regional environmental assessments where project infrastructure crossed international boundaries and jurisdictions. The construction phase of the project is scheduled to be finalized by August 2006.
